akifumi. A software engineer with over 7 years of experience building web applications. I independently plan, design, implement, and operate browser-based audio tools including VIBE MIX LAB and LOFI WINDOW. My goal is to make professional-grade audio experiences accessible to anyone without installations or subscriptions.

My public name is akifumi. I consistently use this name across social media, app listings, and my Kindle author page as my identifier as a developer and author.

My Relationship with Music

I am not a professional musician or audio engineer. However, music has been a constant part of my life for over a decade. Around 10 years ago, I purchased Native Instruments' Traktor DJ controller and spent countless hours mixing at home. I was a weekly listener of BlockFM, a Japanese internet radio station, and was deeply into the club jazz scene, particularly United Future Organization and similar artists.

These experiences shaped my understanding of how tracks flow together, what makes a transition feel natural, and why BPM and key compatibility matter in practice, not just in theory. This knowledge informs VIBE MIX LAB's DJ mixing features and how LOFI WINDOW pairs music with live visuals.

Expertise in LoFi Music

Before LOFI WINDOW, I developed and operate VIBE MIX LAB, a browser-based DJ mixer that automatically transitions between uploaded tracks. It supports BPM sync, harmonic mixing, and crossfade transitions, with all audio processing done entirely client-side.

Building on the DJ mixing expertise from VIBE MIX LAB, I created LOFI WINDOW to combine live camera streams with LoFi music. By pairing the warm, imperfect sound of LoFi with real-time visuals, LOFI WINDOW delivers a hyper-local LoFi experience that captures moments that exist only in the here and now.

I publish technical specifications and benchmark results for VIBE MIX LAB, transparently documenting the accuracy and limitations of BPM detection and key estimation algorithms. Test conditions and known failure cases are included so users and third parties can independently verify the results.

Projects

VIBE MIX LAB: A browser-based DJ mixer supporting BPM sync, harmonic mixing, and crossfade transitions. All audio processing runs entirely in the browser without server-side processing.

LOFI WINDOW: A web app that pairs live camera streams from around the world with LoFi music. Features include a 3D interactive globe, pomodoro mode, visual effects (VHS noise, CRT scanlines, etc.), and support for both Japanese and English. Designed for focus, study, and relaxation.

Both projects are independently planned, designed, implemented, and operated by me.

AI-Assisted Development Approach

Since 2024, I have been using AI as an active engineering partner to collect and analyze mixing best practices from around the world. This includes researching BPM detection algorithms, key estimation methods, and transition techniques from academic papers, open-source projects, and professional mixing guides.

AI helps me aggregate and apply this knowledge to improve the accuracy of VIBE MIX LAB's BPM and key detection. I document the algorithms and their limitations openly on the Specifications and Benchmark pages.

Publications

I have published the "Soto-komori Manyuuki" (Wandering Outside Japan) series on Kindle, including the Vietnam edition and the Philippines language study edition. As a travel app developer who has visited over 40 countries, I draw on real experiences to depict the failures, anxieties, and discoveries of solo overseas travel as light-hearted travel manga.

My published Kindle books also introduce LOFI WINDOW and my other developed apps. The travel experience and development perspective together explain where the idea of combining live camera streams with LoFi music came from.

Transparency and Commitment

I am committed to: (1) keeping all audio processing client-side for privacy, (2) being transparent about what my tools can and cannot do, (3) publishing verifiable benchmarks rather than marketing claims, and (4) continuously improving accuracy through AI-assisted research and community feedback.

I believe that transparency about my background is essential for users to evaluate the reliability of the tools I build. Because I am not a professional musician, I demonstrate reliability through published technical specifications and verifiable benchmark results.
